Sketches by hand, Procreate, InDesign, Illustrator
This is a pattern design collection inspired by nature, specifically the graceful beauty of water lilies. To begin, I made several hand sketches, capturing the delicate yet powerful essence of the flowers, and then refined them in Illustrator to create unique patterns.
The design features line art, inspired by the strong, structural lines found on the underside of the giant water lilies—so strong they can even carry humans.
Each pattern represents a different growth stage of the water lily, starting from the closed flower and gradually opening until it is fully bloomed. These stages are illustrated through various patterns, allowing the design to reflect the transformation of the flower over time.
For the second part of the collection, I chose to create an abstract version of the leaves, using different shapes than the water lily pad to experiment with not staying in the organic rounded forms.
The patterns display the elegance and simplicity of water lilies in their natural state, highlighting their calm beauty while capturing their complex growth process. Each pattern conveys the balance between strength and delicacy, just like the water lilies themselves.
